The Magic Moment revisits a project completed in 2012 where I explored loss, specifically the loss of my mother, and anxiety around preserving memories of her. This project further explores the enduring impact of loss and the depth of emotion that comes from experiencing loss in childhood. The film combines elements of my 2012 project with still images, archive footage and recorded performance. The work contrasts displays of deep emotion that may seem overwhelming or even hyperbolic with moments of quiet contemplation. The assemblage, or re-assemblage, used to make this work further assesses the process of restructuring and reconfiguring that continuously occurs when we process memory and trauma.
